Question: What are the advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces?
David Wilhite says:
A typical Invisalign case contains series of plastic trays that gradually straighten the teeth.
These trays can be removed to eat and perform oral hygiene. So you can not only eat all the food that you love, but you can also efficiently clean your teeth afterward.
For those of us who have had traditional braces, it is well known how difficult it is to clean the teeth after a meal. Food frequently gets stuck in the braces and is difficult to remove. Flossing requires a plastic floss threader to get under the archwire so that the floss can be pulled through the spaces between the teeth. This has to be done for each pair of teeth. Get the picture?
It is not uncommon at all, especially with teenagers, that fillings are necessary after the braces are taken off. This is usually because teenagers are known for their poor oral hygiene and the braces make it that much worse.
While you have braces on, there are certain foods that you cannot eat: apples because they sheer off brackets and gum chewing because it gets stuck in the braces.

Additionally, Invisalign aligners are much kinder to the tissues of the lips and cheeks than traditional braces are.
It is not uncommon for the patient to have to cover some of the brackets with wax in order to be comfortable. This is not a concern with Invisalign since the surface of the aligners are nice and smooth.
With advances in materials and technology, each pair of aligners is only worn for one week instead of two. This cuts treatment time in half.
